One of the ways we track our work is our overall volume; not just "mileage" but the total volume of all kinds of work we do.  

Strava is the easiest/best tool for us right now.  In many ways, it helps with motivation/accountability... I know it has for me, personally. 

When you sign-up, you'll see there's somewhat of a "social media" aspect of it, so consider setting your profile to "private" if you don't want your information shared. 

Although a GPS watch is nice, you certainly don't need one.  Download the Strava app on your phone and you can track all of your runs from your built-in phone GPS. 

Or..just add your workouts in manually.  

I have done all three methods and they all work well!.
