And it's a Wrap

On Saturday, we capped the season with awards and recognition from the 2025 Cross Country season. The awards looked a little different this season as we are pivoting to giving more awards for just a few of important items. There are a couple of reasons for this as we already give out awards on a weekly basis during the season and we're also getting medals, trophies, etc at each meet. Sometimes the end-of-the-season awards felt repetitive and obvious.

So, here were the people we recognized. If you couldn't make it to the awards, you will be able to get your awards or certificates from me at winter training.

Off-Season Training

Next week will still be OYO, but we'll start meeting as a group on Monday December 15th. As you know, South Dakota is very competitive in distance running as we continue to have a presence, individually and as teams- at the national level.

I can't wait to get back to work and see how much each of you can improve. A couple of things I want you to think about.

  • Don't set limits on yourself.

    • The way distance running works is that you never know when you're going to have a breakthrough (Pound the Stone)

    • Oftentimes it takes a few months for your practice performance to translate into race results. We have several people in this boat right now that are ready to pop-off this spring. I can't wait...

  • It's okay to set big goals. PLEASE SET BIG GOALS

    • We see the biggest improvements in the winter, so don't be afraid to set big goals for the upcoming season. We want you to...

    • Write them down so you can see them each day.

    • When Simeon was a junior, he told me he wanted to set the state record in the 1600m (4:07) and he had previously "only" run 4:23. It was a big goal, but not only did he surpass the goal, but he ended up running 3:59 for the full mile, becoming the youngest Sub 4 miler in US history.

  • Don't wait to "feel motivated" to train: just get out the door.

    • The biggest myth in the history of planet earth is that successful runners (people) are motivated all of the time. Not true at all.

    • The secret is Pounding the Stone...showing up, working hard and doing the right thing on a consistent basis.

  • Prioritize Off-Season Workouts.

    • We'll meet daily, so carve out time after school

    • We'll meet Saturdays at 8 AM, so set those times aside.

    • 6 days per week + 48 weeks per year is our secret

  • For the Nerds

Uniforms

  • If you haven't turned these in, I need them so I can do inventory.

    • Normal Uniforms

    • State Meet Uniforms

    • Jackets

SportYou

  • We are required to use this as our communication app, so we won't use Remind anymore

  • Download the App (or use it on the website) and then use this code: RHWP65W8

  • Tutorial if you need it

Final Surge

  • We'll continue to deliver the workouts on Final Surge

  • If you have a Garmin, Coros, etc. connect it to Final Surge

  • This is also where we'll keep track of mileage

That's it for now!
