LEROY SPRAGUE INVITE (CHEYENNE, WY)
This was an awesome meet for us. Everyone nailed it and we're 100% ready for the SD State Meet and the Nike Heartland Regional. We were limited to running just 7 on varsity and had some people who needed to race head-to-head to determine our state meet squad, so we only raced 5 and let everyone else battle it out in the JV race.
The Boys Varsity squad was 2nd behind Cheyenne East. Had we been able to race more than 7, we would had likely won the race as our Top 2 in the JV race (Josh & Jaxon) would have scored for our varsity. The Girls Varsity team was just 16 points behind a Cheyenne Central team that has been ranked in the Top 40 nationally this season. We're truly not far from being a nationally elite team...
Racing at 6,000 ft is tough when you "come up" from lower elevation, but we handled it well. This was our 2nd year at the meet so now we know what the times/performances mean compared to other meets or courses that we run. I plugged each time into the NCAA altitude adjustments/converter which is a very accurate representation of what we would run at low elevation (under 3000ft) on the same type of course.

STATE MEET SQUAD
We use average place for who makes our state meet squad as this method values consistency. We used races from the "meat" of the season (Nike, RC & Cheyenne) to determine average place and you needed to race at least two meets out of the three to get an average place.
For the boys, Tate, Evan, Torin, Josh, Weston and Jeriah are the Top 6.
Whomever crosses first at Best of the West between Noah and Jaxon will be on the line at state and the other will be the alternate.

For the girls, our Top 6 is comprised of Kadance, Evelyn, Brinna, Vi, Whitli and Adison.
Abigail and Maddie will run-off for the 7th spot with the other being the alternate for state.

BEST OF THE WEST
We will be doing our senior recognition at the BOTW meet + turn in uniforms for those not running at the state meet.
Thursday, October 16th @ Hart Ranch
11:45- Senior Recognition (@ team camp)
1:00- Girls (JV & Var combined)
1:30- Boys (JV & Var combined)
Seniors, if you haven't, please fill this out this weekend. I need pictures tonight (or I'll use anything I can find) and answers to the survey Tuesday morning.
NIKE HEARTLAND
We’ll run a Varsity squad (we may get an invite to the Championship race, we'll see) and as many Open squads as we can at the Nike Heartland regionals November 9th in Sioux Falls. I can't stress enough what a good meet this is to finish the season. Every serious program in the US participates in the Nike Regionals and we're a serious program! Additionally, we haven't been able to run on a fast course this year and this meet is the perfect opportunity to get a PR.
We will pay for the entry fee and uniforms, but as this is not an official SDHSAA meet, transportation and lodging will be OYO.
This meet has been a key part of our season and seeing where we stack up regionally with the other seven “heartland” states. The course is fast and the meet is a ton of fun.
If you're considering running in college, this is an important meet to enter as it's one of the only meets where everyone in the region is head-to-head on the same course in the same conditions. We've had people really kill it here, so I would really encourage racing it; it’s an eye-opener to what Cross Country can be.
Click HERE to sign up. (Even if you're not 100% sure you're going to attend, sign up and we can delete you later if something comes up.)
If you're not going to run at state, but you plan on running the Nike Meet, keep showing up to practice!
SUNDAY & MONDAY
We took Wednesday off, so everyone will need to run on Sunday. Check FS as there will be two different workouts (BOTW and then one for everyone not racing BOTW).
Monday will also be OYO. I want you to sleep in and get the workout in when it's convenient. Get in groups if you can.
These are critical workouts...do them.
