Lakota Nation Invitational
LNI Runner-Ups

We had an exceptional day at the Lakota Nation Invitational on Friday. We bumped kids up two levels to experience racing for wins and medals and it would be an understatement to say that they delivered. The future varsity crews looked elite, with the boys finishing just 1 point behind last year's Wyoming 1/2A Runner-Up Wyoming Indian.

Noah Hansen, Jackson Hanson, Gavin Friend and Oden Kleinschmidt were the scoring runners for the Raiders, finishing within just a 16 second split. This tight gap helped us beat Cheyenne Eagle Butte, who placed two runners in front of our first. One of the highlights of the race was how we moved up from the teens and twenties into the Top 10-12 for our scoring runners. Our first three moved past an Eagle Butte runner to seal 2nd and Oden passed a Wyoming Indian athlete to put us within one point of winning the race.

The JV race combined both the boys and girls and we came away with a bunch of Top 20 medals here as well as we placed 6 boys in the Top 17 along with Sylvia Herrick in 6th for the girls.

Leroy Sprague Invitational (Cheyenne)

On Thursday, we'll leave for Cheyenne to compete in the Leroy Sprague Invitational where we'll race some of Wyoming's best teams. This will be our final race before the state meet for the final seven varsity runners. We'll use this race in the final "average place" that we use to determine our Top 7.

I'll send out more information on this meet later. Plan on missing a half-day Thursday and all of Friday for those attending the meet.

  • Senior Day will be held at the Best of the West Meet on October 17th.

  • Team Pictures will be the following day, October 18th. I'll send home packets next week.
