State Meet, BOTW + End of the Season Information

Best of the West

The BOTW meet was an outstanding finish to the season. There were so many great performances and inspiring efforts. This chart shows PR's (personal records are highlighted in blue) along with improvements from a month before on the same course.

There were some monster improvements, highlighted by Abigail Eisenbraun, Carson McDowell, Sylvia Herrick, Gavin Friend and Noah Ketel who all cut over 2:00 from their last time on the course.

State Meet

This Saturday is the 2024 SD State Cross Country Meet at Hart Ranch and we would LOVE to have everyone there going wild for their teammates. We have whittled it down to two strong squads of seven that are ready to take on the rest of the state. Since 2012 both the boys and the girls have placed 6th or better at every state meet and we're aiming to keep the steak alive.

What's the secret to our success?

  1. We recognize it's an important event, but don't approach it differently than other races.

    1. Many teams hype the state meet up into something bigger than what it is. They do things they wouldn't normally do and race differently than they typically would race. This could increases expectation, anxiety (cortisol)- and although done with good intention- never works.

  2. We live within in our circle of control and could care less what other individuals and teams are going to do.

    1. What we can control:

      1. Attitude/Mindset

      2. Sleep

      3. Nutrition/Hydration

      4. Preparation

      5. Effort

  3. We race for something bigger than ourselves.

    1. We race for our teammates.

      1. If you're just racing for yourself, it's too easy to give in.

    2. There may be other, more personal things you races for as well.

  4. Finally, we "adjust the dials" ever so slightly in training to bring about peak performance. We subtly manipulate training so that we maintain consistency, but are rested for a maximum physical effort. The race isn't going to feel any different (in fact I hope it hurts worse) but you'll be physically ready to race your best.

    1. What are the dials we turn?

      1. Volume (slightly turn this down, but not too much)

      2. Intensity (remains consistent)

      3. Density (ie. doing1' intervals vs. 3' intervals)

      4. Frequency (cut a morning run in lieu of a little more sleep)

State Meet Roster for the Boys: Miles Brekhus, Aaron Letner, Isaiah Geffre, Torin Jackson, Jeriah Alexander, Tate Van Beek and Evan Perrigo (alternate Josh Uhre).

Everyone has an empty ziplock bag with their name on it. Bring your uniform to team pics, put it in your bag and drop it in the uniform return box.

Team Awards/ Raider Mile

Friday, November 1st 4:00 PM @ Sioux Park

  • We'll have a Middle School Mile as well; I sent this out to the MS coaches, so hopefully they will spread the word and we can connect with future Raiders.

Nike Heartland Regional

We can still add to the Nike Rosters until 10/30 and then we will pay the team registration fee out of our club account. Sign up if you have interest!

Again, this is an exceptional opportunity to compete and set a PR, you just need to get yourself to the meet. Additionally, if you have college running in your scope, I would recommend this meet.

And...if you're running Nike, keep showing up for practice!
